3rd grade testing and beyond

Now that my rising 3rd grader DC has been accepted into the AAP program and will be attending the center based school, what testing will be the focus? SOL? iReady? NNAT and COGAT were a big deal to get into AAP. Are there any other tests like that parents should be aware of moving forward?

SOLs, just like base school from 3rd on. The IAAT test in 6th and math SOL are really the most important if algebra 1 in 7th is the objective.

Once you're in, you're in. It's nice to do well on the SOLs and iready but not required. Remember, whether AAP or gen ed, it's grade school. A time to learn and to relax and have fun. Be with friends, try out activities, etc.

Agree with this. The next time people tend to freak out is the IAAT.

For my 6th grader, it was very clear in 2nd grade that gen ed math would not meet her needs. For 7th I have been a little more ambiguous what she needed, so we determined together that however she tested on the IAAT would be good enough and we'd roll with it and didn't focus on the test at all.
