Urgh the wait for results after mammogram

Anonymous
It seems to bother me more and more with each passing year. Anyone else struggle with this?

Not really, I was high risk so I get imaging done twice a year. I've had a ton of biopsies, and once was DCIS, which I treated with lumpectomy and radiation. It wasn't really a surprise, after the callback diagnostic mammogram, when they told me what showed in the imaging, I figured it was DCIS. I think that if it comes back and shows up on a mammogram and not a palpable lump first (I do self exams) it'll be early stage and very treatable.

Hope your results are negative for anything suspicious.

I hear you, OP. I start dreading the appointment a month out. Absolutely hate everything about them. Hang in there.

Yes. I’m waiting for the results from a brain MRI to see if a benign tumor has grown in the last 6 months, and I’m so anxious. Fairfax Radiology keeps texting me surveys, and i jump every time I see a text from them. It’s not the results, though. It’s just them asking me to fill out another survey. I have a mammogram later this week, and I will feel the same way.

I don’t get why they don’t tell you right away with mammos. If some places can why can’t they all??

Yes, and I switched from WrA because of the wait. Went to VHC last year and had results in my portal not long after I returned home the same day.

It's not on the portal?

No, they call right away if there is a problem IME.

Ask doctor for a diagnostic mammogram. Then you get results that day.

I feel like if they see something concerning you know pretty much immediately because they keep taking pics or move you to a sonogram. That is what they did for me. Turned out benign but there wasn't any waiting.

Bay Radiology, Annapolis. On-site radiologist and results—thru biopsy if necessary—the day of. They take all major insurance. I literally would not get a mammogram if it were not done this way.

Mine did not last year. My college aged DD went with and got coffee while I had it done. I came out bragging about how easy it is and how silly people get worked up, blah, blah, blah. I got a call a couple days later that I needed to go in for an U/S and ultimately ended up. with a biopsy (which was benign). It's funny, though, I told my DD I was sure the mamma was ok because "you can tell" when there is an issue--and I was wrong.

You can’t just “ask” for a diagnostic mammogram, there needs to be a high level of risk/specific concern or abnormality. And insurance typically doesn’t cover the full coat of a diagnostic mammogram so you’ll be treated to a $500 bill.
