AP testing accommodations

My DD took an AP test today and she said “it seems like if you are assigned a room of students that need extra support that person should at least know the basics of how to proctor the exam”. It seems like it was stressful and she didn’t receive all of her accommodations (specifically she had to hand write the essays). She decided the proctor was struggling enough she didn’t even want to bother trying to work with him to get the typing accommodation figured out. She has dysgraphia and I’m worried her hand written essays will be unreadable.

For next time, how has your kid experienced this? Has there been an expectation that the student will identify to the proctor all of their accommodations and advocate real time or is this supposed to be ready to go? I think our DD wasn’t prepared to need to figure this out today with the stress of the exam so she just took what they offered, which maybe isn’t the best. If she is supposed to advocate real time I want to prepare her for that expectation on our next go-round.

Maybe the actual proctor was sick and they had to pull in a substitute at the last minute.
Next time tell her to advocate for what she needs. The proctor can always go get help to figure it out

My DDs SAT proctor Saturday was a school secretary. Very nice but clearly untrained.

When DD asked about her read aloud accommodation (she needed 1 word read), it took 20 minutes and 3 people to figure out what to do. And add took a printout of her accommodations with her to hand to proctor when she arrived.

Proctor also allowed snacking in test room of a fruit another student is allergic to. It was less than optimal.

I have even lower expectations for AP proctors. We will be reaching out to school test coordinator in advance about accommodations this time.

I reached out to the school and they said it was their mistake and offered to cancel her score and let her retake. Now we have to decide if it is better to let it go or have her sit again.
