Housewarming gift

Anonymous
A family member of mine just bought their first time in DC. Yay! What was your favorite house warming gift?

They have kids and a busy schedule but trying to get some ideas. I was thinking of finding a restaurant that delivers close and get a gift card? Or should o get a GrubHub one? Flowers? Wine?

When my (single no kids) sibling bought a condo I bought them a Le Creuset Dutch oven because they always wanted one. This person I’m not as close to so would like to spend max $100-$125 on a gift.

I am in DC a lot for work but don’t live there so I can’t just drop it off, so must be delivered.

Sorry if in wrong Forum!

It’s just a gesture- don’t overthink it! An aloe plant if they cook, bottle of wine, whatever. They’ll appreciate the gesture.

Agree with PP—keep it simple. Nice plant, a door mat, or wreath for the front door maybe? Or a bottle of wine? I once got a bird feeder and seeds, and it was super nice….but it felt like homework because I had to ponder where to put it, etc, having never been a bird-feeder person before.

I wouldn’t get them home decor - unless you don’t care if they exchange or give it away.

A gift card to a nearby restaruant?

I wouldn’t actually get them anything for their home—it’s too personal. In my new home I wanted to pick out my own stuff! A bottle of wine or bubbly is usually a winner.

Kitchen towels. Very useful, generally easy to store but nothing they have to display if they don’t like or want them. And, nice ones can be in the price range.

Olive oil and balsamic vinegar.or other ingredients from Williams Sonoma or comparable

Gift card for a lawn and garden place. They can get annuals, bulbs, whatever. Or just a plant pot.

I hate getting these. I don’t want a bunch of random kitchen towels. I barely use kitchen towels and I prefer the ones I have that fit into my laundry system.

GC to Home Depot or Lowes, whichever is closer to their new home. Most useful and unexpected gift

What do you use to dry your hands or a pot?

If it is someone 40 or below -- I send a Lowes or Home Depot gift card. Anyone older gets a local restaurant gift card.

No need to overthink.
