Freshman year at college is over for most...what did you learn?

Just moved my kid out of the dorm and brought him home. Yuck! My kid went to a big state school and had the time of his life! Made the Deans list but had so much fun socially.

We all learned that college is what you make of it. Our kid chose not to attend some of the higher ranked schools to witch he was accepted. He chose a State School. To each their own.

He has had so much fun, has met so many new friends, and has great grades. We learned to trust our kid and make decisions based on his wants, not ours.

Just a great freshman year and so happy for him!

I am glad it all worked out. I love to hear happy stories. We parents should be rooting for all of these kids.

I am happy to hear that your son had a great freshman year, but I don't understand the "yuck" in your op. Is this some weird autocorrect?

DC went to a private midsize school a plane flight away. They are thriving! Made great friends, joined a fraternity, getting good grades, made some connections with professors for research opportunities and has a great internship this summer through the help of some alumni. I learned that the distance didn’t really matter and that time flies.

small private school. he loved it. would not have been my pick - for him or for me, but I was wrong. he says that for sure this is his last summer home. harsh!

Sent my kid to community college for the first two years. He had chosen an especially demanding major and he needed to beef up his math before moving on to the state university. What a great decision. The curriculum kicked his butt the first year but he really pulled it together and now he can transfer in with all his math completed. I couldn't be more proud and impressed.

DS just arrived home from his very swanky college. No doubt he learned a lot. He did not learn, however, that from time to time people need haircuts.

LOL! My son was on a schedule of getting one haircut per year until he started interviewing for internships. Those curls came off pretty fast.

LOL. Mine was the same until he got a girlfriend.

Ivy, not done yet! DC kicked butt and did impressively well in a very competitive environment. Got to know professors, had mostly small classes, found friends and garnered club leadership too.

DS doing well at a large, instate flagship. Turned down smaller, private colleges (which would have been my choice ). I’m so happy and proud that he successfully navigated a huge school, advocated for himself, made friends, joined clubs and doing well academically. Enjoy having your kids home this summer, everyone! He (we) doesn’t feel the pressure of having an internship yet, not looking forward to that!

Aside from dodging those damned protesters, my kid had a great year and has thrived academically.

DC is at a top 10 one and thrived academically and socially. Don’t know what i have learned or if I should have learned anything at all.
Kid is doing well and I am happy because they are happy!

Same. I hope it’s quiet next year in that regard.
