Paris apartment with air conditioning

(New) DH's large extended family is from Paris - his parents were born there though live here now. We got married in the states, but Dh wants to visit twice a year. His ideal is once in the winter and once in the summer. I'm trying to push him towards spring, but we'll see if that takes. I am one of those people who overheats and passes out. I don't spend a ton of time outside during the height of the day in high temperatures, and stay out of the sun. So I'll go to the beach from 8am to 10am, and then sit on a shaded deck with a fan or inside with AC for all of mid-day then head out at dinner time. I have been this way since I was a young girl.

So far we have been to Paris in both late November and early May, but in 2025 Dh wants to go visit family in August. How do I find an apartment or Air BnB with air conditioning? Most of his family is in the 6th, 7th and 8th, so somewhere around there would be best. We could stay in a hotel too, but with a lot of relatives coming to visit I think an apartment might be easier, what with wanting to cook and some people staying over, etc.

You can search for air conditioning on AirBNB.

Go with a well-known ($$$) rental company. I have been to Paris many times but only once in summer, and I will never do summer there again. "AC" can mean different things to Parisians. I almost rented an apt. one time but when I read the small print it turned out the AC was -- a fan!

That summer we left our rental and cheeked into a hotel with AC. I could not tolerate stagnant, hot air. Nearly ruined our trip.

We would stand in the metro to feel the breeze when the trains went by, just for relief.

I love Paris any other time of year. Especially Christmas.

Thank you for telling me this. Maybe I will push for a hotel in the summer and we can rent an apartment in the winters and host family then.

Read the reviews. Sometimes there is only AC in the bedrooms not the main rooms.

As someone else mentioned above you should be able to filter for AC but you want to rely on good reviews for this. A lot of reviews will note the AC was broken or weak.

Perhaps DH visits alone in the summer.

Also ask the specific questions about the AC arrangement.

We don’t need this dissertation and the nonsense that you overheat, as if this is unique to you. Just ask where there is a/c is Paris.

Good points. A very common solution will be the portable AC units in bedrooms. They need to be the type which push warm air out a vent through the window. They are worthless if they don't have that. They are quite loud, although once you get used to them you will probably sleep fine, since it's constant sound.

We went in late August years ago, and it wasn't too hot, and fans were enough. But ask about screens on windows. We opened the windows at night for cooler air, which worked well, but screens are uncommon in Europe (WHY????) and we woke up with mosquito bites on our arms and legs.

+1. That whole first long paragraph is not needed and the question is buried in the second. Just ask what the hell you want to ask.

I'm from Paris and my family still lives there. I hate Paris in the summer, that's when they decide to do all the road/under-the-road maintenance, because a lot of people leave for the entire month of July or August on their generous paid vacations. It's dusty and it's hot. Open toed sandals are not recommended. The worse times to visit are late fall (cold and rainy) and height of summer. The best time is spring.

There are more and more accommodations with A/C, by the way. Usually that means a hotel, but some AirBnB type places have air conditioning too.

I would branch out and see something besides Paris. My favorite places are the Alps and the Bretagne and Normandie coast, personally. I love to summer in the Alps, at high altitude, to ensure cool air! We rent a chalet, hike, climb and go horseback riding.

I only included it bc a lot of times people give me a hard time about it saying I'm being spoiled in the US, or I'm being difficult. It's not until they see me turn green, and start throwing up and then pass out that they believe it's an actual issue. I was trying to bypass that.

The best thing would be to let DH visit family on his own, and you stay in the States. If he wants you to come, then it has to be in the winter.
