Microdosing for alcohol abuse

Anonymous
I have AUD. I've been managing it alright, but I was tired of managing it. Planning out how many drinks I could have and feeling guilt when I went overboard was awful. I ordered some mushroom chocolate (I am in a decriminalized area). It's been a lifesaver.

It's crazy how there's so much stigma. I take a small dose (maybe a bit more than a microdose, 700 mg or so) and I'm able to do things like clean up the house, organize my kids toys (I do this when they are at their father's house) and go for a walk. All while enjoying myself! Then I relax and watch a movie, listen to music, call a friend, or journal. The next day, I feel energized! My outlook on life and the meaning of life has never been better.

Has anyone else treated their AUD with mushrooms?

Nope, I do AA and therapy. But if it works for you, that’s great!

Give it time. It’ll turn on you too.

Get off the drugs.

Are you in AA? I can believe you are enjoying or believe you are enjoying the microdosing. But the underlying issue is how you deal with stress and difficult emotions. They are going to arise with or without microdosing.

I am in therapy and attend MM (moderation management) meetings. AA doesn't work for me. Currently I am sober from alcohol, but haven't sworn it off completely.

I suffer from PTSD from child sexual abuse and child neglect. Microdosing has been clinically proven to help with PTSD.

Yes. Which is why it would be a good option for someone with PTSD who does not also have addiction problems.

Try a therapist and real help.

What does your therapist think? MM doesn't seem to be working for you either.

I do tend to have an addictive personality. But I haven't found myself addicted to microdosing in the same way as I was with alcohol. I can do it one day and not think about it for a month. Ive been reading about how it rewires your brain (in a good way) to want to make healthy habits. I also have been craving better food and have been more organized.

MM has absolutely helped me. I went from drinking as much as 15 shots of hard liquor a night (years ago) to now following MM guidelines for drinking. When I say "went overboard" that's usually 3 drinks (but when the drinks are converted to units, it can be more like 5 units, like if I have an IPA). I went from blacking out all the time, to not having a blackout in years.

Did you miss the part where I said I'm in therapy?

My therapist is ok with it. She is quite liberal.

for legit PTSD I did weekly EMDR therapy for like a year - which was hard work, emotionally taxing and very expensive but I can honestly say that two years out of therapy I dont have PTSD symptoms anymore. Highly suggest this.

Try EMDR for your PTSD, OP.

I'd try to abstinent from all addictions, I'd include work addiction, food/sugar addiction, shopping, gambling and any type of drug.
