Dickinson?

DC really loved the school during visit - students seemed bright, happy, friendly, and engaged. Seems like a hidden gem? Big TO approach - anyone with views on their DCs experience there/what type of kid is a good fit?

My DS really liked it too. DS is at a DMV catholic HS and he hit it off with his tour guide who was a LAX player from a different DC catholic HS. The entire campus struck me as very friendly. Kids wearing school swag everywhere, kids greeting each other. Very bike friendly. The Carlisle historic district is pretty quaint. We toured Dickinson, Gettysburg and F&M in close proximity to each other. DS expressed a mild preference for Dickinson over the other 2 (and a mild preference for F&M over Gettysburg).

We toured all Dickinson, F&M and Gettysburg but I could not get DC interested in Dickinson, though I thought it had a lot to offer. My sense was Dickinson has a student body with a more alternative vibe and F&M and Gettysburg were more preppy. All have a lot of similarities. Dickinson prides itself on the high percent of students that study abroad. I did not love the lack of food options (same story at F&M). Sorry, just a bunch of random thoughts but I did think Dickinson seemed like a good option for that tier of school (by that I mean very solid, kind of in the middle of the LACs).

My husband is a Dickenson grad and I can attest to the strong alum network and great education. We go back about once a year and I have also lightly gotten involved in some mentoring stuff. The kids there make me feel like the world is going to be ok.

Our babysitter is applying there as a safety. Her top choice is Bowdoin fwiw.

We loved Dickinson but my DS is a little concerned about the food. It is considered one of the worst college cafeterias. There’s been a decent amount of bad press that they might be making changes soon.

Is it woke there?

Yes. You’d hate it. Don’t bother, you don’t want to be there and we don’t want you there.

I believe that was last year and they made changes this year.

For women the rap on the place is ‘it’s where the mean girls go.’ Any truth?

We toured a lot of liberal arts colleges and Dickinson seemed very mid compared to other schools. Students all seemed alike.

They don’t look at tests at all, if I recall correctly.

I have heard this, also. I am also given that impression, based on a few people that DS knows who attend. So, it is a legitimate question.

They are test optional, not blind. They’ve been TO for a long time IIRC

How tolerant and inclusive of you.
