Hi all - We are expecting our first child later this year and have heard the waitlists can be crazy. We would be looking to start daycare early next year. Hoping to find out what others have done for day care in the Cleveland Park area. We looked at KinderHaus and KindarCare in City Ridge, so if you have any info on those specifically, please let us know. Also still trying to wrap our heads around nanny shares. Any info/recs would be appreciated! |
Nanny share is the best. KinderCare type of center is the worst. Pay the agency 3-4K and get a nanny for share. They will most likely have another family too. Problem solved. |
Also check out Broadcasters and St. Albans.
I live in CP too. We did a nanny share for daughter #1 until she was 2.5, and are doing just a nanny for daughter #2 until she is the same age. |
Get on daycare wait lists NOW while you explore the nanny option. Otherwise you won’t have options |
Our kids were at BCDC for a number of years when it was in the old location and we loved it. |
This isn’t as bad as it used to be. Agree with poster above to explore some of the non-profit/ community-run options in the area- we didn’t want any of the for profit daycares (particularly the private equity places). |
Broadcasters Child Development Center in Tenleytown. Our 3 year old has been there since 7 months old and we love it. |
Do it while you are pregnant or not |
Be careful with places with churches |
Another suggestion to look at BCDC - wonderful community and teachers. Ours is currently there and we love it. |
Also a fan of BCDC! |
lol why...they are infants? |
If there's anything walkable, I'd start with that! If not, I'd consider one of the centers (St Albans Early Childhood Center or Two Birds) that participate in PKEEP - this would allow your child to stay at the center through PK4 (and have a better shot of getting into free PK3 and PK4 at that center). |
Another parent - any idea how to reach out to them? Their info email keeps bouncing back and I’ve sent them voice messages - no response. I heard from another parent that BCDC tends to be unresponsive and it’s proving to be true, but I haven’t given up. I’d like to take a tour at the very least & hopefully apply! Any tips? |
Whatever you do don't approach stay at home moms you just met asking for childcare. We lived in a new build neighborhood with a lot of first time parents. Everytime I thought I made a friend it seems I was only good for childcare and had to ghost them.
Even another Mom you meet on a walk is a stranger. Do not ask STRANGERS to watch your kids in an illegal home daycare situation. |
