So many of these approaching…what is the etiquette (if any) on gifting? Amounts for family, close friends, acquaintances etc

Been a couple years now, but people who gave a card tend to $100 regardless of relationship. Plenty of others just give congratulations.

Wondering the same.

These are my thoughts:
$50-$100 for neighbors
$250 for friend’s kid
$500 for best friend’s kid.

Based on above, maybe $50 is too cheap for neighbors.

Are you giving a gift card or cash?

I have been giving $150 for neighbors. We invited some of my DD’s friends and their families. I’m not close with the parents. I’m assuming I should give the same?

Wow! These are some very generous gifts!

+1. I live on Long Island and friends gave (and received) less than that; more generous with family members though.

It’s UMC communism I guess. I don’t give anything for a neighbor’s kid unless I actually knew the family well…and then $50.

I find it a weird arms race where everyone throws a graduation party so their kid can collect $$$s…since you gave their kid $$$s.

$25. You all have a lot of money!

Seriously! Yikes!

$500?! Wowza. I’ve never gifted a friend’s child that much, nor would ever expect my kids to receive that much.

It does sound a lot like rich people shuffling money between and amongst themselves.

We are UMC and none of us give graduation gifts to each other (referring to my kids and their friends). It's enough to just celebrate each other.

My kids are always younger, but In most neighborhoods we’ve lived there were 5-6 kids graduating ever year. We gave the teens that babysat $100 and the rest of the kids nothing. Our neighbors were wealthy though (and so were we) They weren’t expecting anything and it would’ve been awkward.
