How to make vintage earrings more comfortable?

Anonymous
I have some lovely vintage earrings, both screwback and clip-on, but man do they hurt after an hour or two. Is there any way to make them less painful?

What about them hurts? Are they too heavy? Do they pull your lobes down? Are the posts too thick?

I have switched out the clips and screwbacks to posts or other pierced styles.

I've just given up. Most vintage earrings are far too big to be anything but painful for me. I think some of us have earlobes/holes that are more sensitive than those of others.

I can't wear anything other than lightweight earrings anymore. Those old clip-ons squeeze the crud out of my lobes too. Maybe have the earrings converted to a pin?

I tried and failed to find video of an on point Gilligan’s Island episode where for some reason Gilligan needed to dress as a woman to help effect their escape, and Lovey was helping him with the charade. When he asked how women could bear the pain the pinching of their earrings, she told him it was easy, just to focus instead on the pain from their high heels (or vice versa).

OP here. This is what hurts--the squeezing/pinching feeling. My ear lobes are fine and don't sag. Also, I very much appreciate the GI episode. I can picture all those characters in my head.

Don't wear them. It's not worth it!
