Police escorting winning high school team

Is it common for small town in VA for the sherif department to escort a team because they won a game? I just saw this in Winchester and I was shocked!

Not uncommon especially in a small town with 1 high school.

Escorted them where?

Half the roads in Winchester are blocked or hard to pass through because of Apple Blossom. If they aren’t local getting around can be tricky. Maybe they were getting an escort out of town.

Maybe Op means -- off the field. What did you see exactly, Op?

I think they mean on city streets — home from the big game, etc. I think it’s a delightful tradition.

I didn't follow them so not sure. We were just waiting for them to my friend to show up and saw it.

Off the field? On the streets? How vague. Weird post.

I’m from a small town and not only do the police escort the football and basketball teams in and out of town for things like playoff games, but they include fire and rescue vehicles.

Yes - Town of Vienna was happy to escort the girls basketball team a few miles en route to their championship game in Richmond VA last year. I think it’s a lovely tradition.
