When you discover your kid's new coach has very different political views

I know this shouldn't matter, but blasting it on public social media accounts demonstrates a major lack of judgment to me.

Ugh. And now I can't unsee it.

What do the coach's political views have to do with their coaching abilities?

If you are happy with the team/coaching I’d just ignore it/hide the coach’s posts on social media. It is hard enough to find the right team situation and coach as it is IMO

Nothing, obviously. But I'd prefer my kids' teachers and coaches to be smart enough to keep that stuff off social media, or at least have private accounts so it's not the first thing that shows up if I google them.

Is this a BRYC coach? I tried to ignore the political stuff but it was hard and then it just became outrageous and really highlighted his overall demeanor and I didn’t want my daughter exposed to that so we left

Stop googling people if you don’t want to find out any information about them, doofus.

Well, the solution is easy. Don’t Google them. Don’t ask questions if you don’t want to know the answer.

Many of my kid's professors do. Teachers and professors to not care or hide anything. Have you looked at X/Twitter recently??

As long as a coach is not pressing their viewpoints (see faculty, ugh) on the team, I would not care.

You know the coach’s politics have nothing to do with his/her coaching, unless they’re attempting to indoctrinate children — which doesn’t appear to be happening. You not only disagree with the coach’s views, but you don’t respect those views, so you now think less of the coach as a person. That’s what’s making you uncomfortable.

You need to compartmentalize. You can think coach’s political views are moronic or offensive while still acknowledging that the coach is knowledgeable about the sport and a good instructor to the kids. Make sure you are respectful to the coach and do not denigrate him or her. Your kid should have no idea that you know anything about the coach’s politics.

The question I was attempting to ask was where they'd coached previously, not who they voted for.

All of this.

I have a lot of preferences about what other people do. I understand that I don't have a say and don't get bothered, particularly when the unpreferred thing they are doing has no impact on me or my family.

My HS kid brought it to our attention because your kid should follow their travel coach on Twitter. Unfortunately, the coach does use the same account for personal things as sports things...luckily, the postings are 1000 sports tweets/retweets to every 1 personal posting (and even then only 1 out of 10 personal postings are even political).

I am not surprised and the coach doesn't bring it to the field...but some of the postings are out there.
