ISL Lax division system?

Anonymous
Can someone explain how it works. I know someone goes up and someone goes down every year, but what is the purpose. What if the team in the upper doesn’t want to go up and vice versa? Just seems like such a bad system.

Bullis going down and Maret moving up. Guessing Bullis can’t be happy about moving down and Maret can’t be thrilled about moving up.

They need a new way to do it.

I think it works great!

How in the world does it work great?? The bottom 2 teams of the upper division would have finished in the middle of the pack of the lower division this year. Why not just have the teams select which division is the best fit for their team for that season.

That’s absurd. They absolutely should not be allowed to choose their division. It is and should be based on season records. And it’s not accurate that the bottom two of the AA would have finished in the middle of the A. Most years the bottom two/few of the AA still can and often do beat the top two/few of the A, if they actually play.

This seems to be a solution looking for a problem, not the other way around. It works just fine the way it is and frankly it doesn't much matter.

The better solution is for the ISL and WCAC to form a new league with the top teams from each league in the new combined upper division and the rest in the lower division. Add in STAB and Collegiate and a shot clock for the upper division only. If a lower div team plays upper division they play with a shot clock.

Upper division in no specific order

You realize they play sports other than lacrosse in the ISL?

All the ISl teams should just play in the same conference. They do that for field hockey. There's no reason not to do it that way. This isn't the NCAA.

There is only one tier for field hockey because not all the schools have field hockey. They do all have lacrosse. Having only one tier for the sports with a wide difference in skill would make for a miserable experience for everyone. There’s no need to make any changes. The ISL runs remarkably well compared to many other leagues. All this complaining is silly.

How enjoyable would it be for both Stone Ridge and Madeira if they were required to play each other every year? Not fun for either. Come on. If you're stuck in the middle get better. Competitive lacrosse is enjoyable. 24-1 scores are not.

If you look at Episcopal last year when they won lower they had all seniors and then moved up with a young team. Exact same thing with Maret this year. So your saying both those schools should just go out and recruit new players to compete in the upper division?

You're right. PVI would beat Stone Ridge by 40 in basketball.

Agree. It's bad enough as it is right now as the top four teams are much stronger than the others.

And, the relegation system is likely coming to college soon (football only maybe) too so get used to it.

Nope. They all have field hockey. And what's the difference if schools like Maret and Episcopal lose at the bottom of a six-team tier or a 12-team tier? The smaller tiers are silly. And, make no sense.
