Looking for a weekend getaway… driving distance

Anonymous
DCUM hive mind, really need your help on finding a drivable distance from the DMV, flying is out of the question due to my aging father and health concerns.

We really want to get on the beach and out of town and directly on the water if possible.

Please give any recommendations!

It’s fairly huge, but my family loves the Hyatt resort in Cambridge, MA. It’s the bay, so no real beach, but it’s beautiful and right on the water + multiple pools and TONS of stuff to do. Rooms are nice and Cambridge itself is very cute and has a few good (casual) places to eat.

OP- thanks for this suggestion! My parents met in Cambridge so even better! Will look into this

Maybe the tides inn? Haven’t been, but have friends who like it. I also like Chesapeake bay Hyatt for chilling by the pool.

MD, not MA.

I’ve been to Tides Inn, and while it is lovely and on the water, there is no real beach to speak of. There is a tiny patch of sand (manmade “beach”) with a nice view, but it doesn’t feel at all like a real beach.

I did not like the Cambridge Hyatt though we went prepandemic— I’d almost rather go to Baltimore and stay on the water.

There’s recent thread on nice places on the water in Ocean City— you could check that out, or Rehoboth has places.

I really think you will need to consider your criteria— is it important to have a shorter drive, or to be on the ocean, etc.

The residence inn in Bethany is oceanfront and in a generally peaceful area.

I really like the Hyatt resort and the view of the water is beautiful but there is a lot of walking and no real beach. If your father enjoys pools, it is great though as it overlooks the bay.
