Time tracking my day…where does the time go?

Anonymous
Help me divvy out my day.
I recently started a freelance 1099 job that I track hourly.

I find it hard to fit in 8 hours of work for some reason. Maybe because Im tracking it hourly, little 10 minute breaks (that I would usually get “paid for” in an office) are not counting.

I have 7 hours between school drop off and pickup. I can do an hour or more at night, no problem. Also, I don’t *have* to hit 8hr daily.

But I keep thinking there are 16 hours in a day. I know there’s some fluffy stuff in there—waking up, getting ready for bed, short drives to school and back, lunch.

**But how do i divide up 16h
-8h work
-1 hour total eating
-x hours cooking (30-60m)
-1 hour max, collectively driving kids or helping them get ready
-1 hr workout
-fluff: work breaks, just talking with husband and family when people get home

How am I finding this hard?!? (Not hard, just .. where does time go!!)

*16 hours is implying 8 hours of sleep. Thanks.

Just keep track for a week- every 15 minutes write it down- I did it once and it’s eye-opening. You will not believe how much time you spend on social media and other things.

You’re going to have to force yourself to keep time, and stick to it. This is how my day works:

I drop kids at school at 7:20, home by 7:30, work starts at 8am.

I work 8-5pm. I fit in a half hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks.

There’s no wiggle room for fooling around.

Because its really hard to work and concentrate for 8 hrs a day. At the office we actually get 15min paid breaks every 4 hrs. But it always ends up more with talking with coworkers, etc.
