“Give them a hug for me”, “Tell her I said hi” etc - Do you ever actually relay the hug or message?

Should the person being told to be messenger actually deliver the hug and or message?

Yes

I always do (as long as I remember).

Yeah but not actually a hug just "Larla asked me to hug you for her" or sends her best or whatever.

The hello yes, not the hug. You can't give a hug on someone's behalf (which is why I never say this).

My mom also always tells me to "give them a kiss for me" about my kids, and my kids don't like being kissed so whatever. She doesn't even kiss them in person because they won't let her. She just says it out of habit.

I always pass along the message. Children and adults love to be remembered!

Not necessarily the physical part of a hug 🫂 but mostly yes - I will relay a HI for someone.
Anonymous
only when I see fit to do so

Not a literal hug, but if I remember I will definitely tell the person X said hi or sends regards. On the one hand it makes the person feel good to be remembered and on the other I like to be a person who keeps my word, even trivially.
Anonymous
nope. never.

You do understand that you have a legal obligation to convey the hug?

Yes I do, except in one instance when someone who was a frenemy asked me to do this and I didn’t.

I do not hug people, but always say hi + give news about the person who said hi because that's also the point.
