TJ Notice - How safe do other TJ parents feel?

Notice from Principal….

Dear TJHSST Parents and Guardians,

Late this morning, we were made aware of graffiti in a school restroom that threatens a shooting at the school on “Thursday.” We have notified the Office of Safety and Security and the Fairfax County Police who have responded and are actively investigating. We will provide an update later this evening. Out of an abundance of caution, we will have additional security at the school tomorrow morning.

If you or your student has any information to share about this situation, please contact our Office of Safety at 571-423-2000 or through our anonymous safety tip line that you can access online, by text or by phone.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Dr. Ann N. Bonitatibus

TJHSST Principal

Not feeling great about it myself. I have a kid with a major exam tomorrow. Trying to figure out what to do. She does not want to miss.

It’s someone trying to get out an exam obviously. Pat no attention to it.

I have a hunch. Usually this means some student wants out of an exam. They were doing this with bomb threats back in my day.

Hoping for that evening update soon…
Like PP I’m thinking it’s just a hoax….but these days, it’s too easy to be real.

Exact same "Thursday" threat at Luther Jackson in February this year. They were able to identify the student that did it

At TJ right now, you wouldn’t know there is a threat. No police presence at the athletic fields. One police car seen at front of school when drove in.

The threat is for tomorrow. Not today. School went as usual today.

Agree. Pay no attention.

What’s the harm in staying home one day? I would keep my kids home.

Update came out….

We understand that the news today is unsettling and can spark unease. Parents and guardians are encouraged to have a conversation with your children about how they feel. As a family, you will need to make decisions that feel right to you. Know that our teachers, counselors, and administrators stand ready to support your children. If there are further updates appropriate to share in the coming days, I will reach back out.

We’re out. Not satisfied with FCPS response. FCPS security will monitor electronically. WTH? Get their butts into the school with my kid. Two whole SROs and some “patrolling”. Not enough for me

Copied wrong paragraph…but still out.

Out of an abundance of caution tomorrow, we will have an increased security presence on campus. The Fairfax County Police Department will regularly patrol our school grounds. In addition to our regular School Resource Officer, an additional School Resource Officer will be assigned to our school for the day. Finally, the Office of Safety and Security will also provide electronic surveillance. All of these measures will contribute to maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.

Our kid, by contrast, will be going to school, because of course he is. FCPS has to "do something" because panicky parents expect them to, but we're not missing a day of school every time some kid decides to scribble on a wall.
