Post menopause - sec is too painful

Anonymous
I hit menopause early - 43!

I’ve tried the estradiol cream and it helps somewhat but not enough.

Other ideas? What can I try?

DH is very patient and attentive. It’s not for lack of effort on his part.

Oral from DH. Lots of it. Sometimes it becomes the main course.

Have you tried lubricants? I use estrogen cream but sometimes also need a lubricant. ( the one I use is called Good Clean Love).

Yes. Still painful. Would going on some kind of systemic HRT help?

I would talk to your doctor. Maybe you can use the estrogen cream a little more frequently. I think there are a couple other treatments they can prescribe, too. Not sure systemic HRT is recommended if that’s your only symptom.

See a sexual medicine specialist. Dr Rachel Rubin is excellent.

This worked well for me:

But I agree consider systemic HRT. Maybe both together.

I use HRT, and that really helps! I was told if needed if you still have pain after starting HRT you can still also use estradiol cream but I didn’t need to since the HRT alone worked.

What works for me-- estradiol cream twice a week, Revaree (hyaluronic acid suppository) three times a week, and silicone-based lubricant (Uberlube). Note that you have to be really consistent about using all of these, and the estradiol cream takes a few months to reach full effectiveness.
