Hair loss when losing weight

Any way to prevent this? It is a real issue for me.

Hair loss while dieting tells me you're not eating the nutrients you need. Are you eating empty calories? Popcorn for lunch may help you lose weight, but it's not giving you the nutrients your body (and hair, nails. etc) needs.

biotin maybe?
I know someone who got bariatric surgery and lost about half her hair through the weight loss.

Are you taking a multivitamin? Has this happened if/when you've lost weight in the past?

This. You need nutrients. And fats! And forget the good fats like avocado.

I am eating about 1400 calories a day, vegetarian and trying for higher protein and moderate carbs. Example from today:

1423 calories
87 g carbs
126 g protein
67 g fat

Mostly things like edamame, eggs, veggie burgers, cottage cheese, salad, chickpeas, lentils, string cheese.

I feel like I wrote this in a fever dream - my eating plan twin! These are all things I’ve eaten in the last 48 hours.

I lost 30 lbs on WW over a year and my hair was falling out. I was shocked because I didn't do anything drastic or eliminate food groups.

You need bloodwork for thyroid hormones, OP. Hyperthyroidism symptoms include weight loss and hair loss.

Hair loss in big weight loss is normal. Not much you can do to prevent it. Maybe if you lost extremely slowly, like a pound a month.

Your protein intake is fine, I would try to increase your healthy fats from avocados and nuts/seeds.

Red flag that you are not eating enough and/or you’ve thrown off your thyroid. If you’re losing muscle mass this will compound your problems. I’d try s topping for a while.
