What is this HR-speak for??

Anonymous
I'm in the running for a job I really want. Four rounds of interviews and a couple of longtime connections at the place already.
Just heard back from human resources saying I'd hear more in a week as they wrap up interviews but to reach out to them if I have any concerns about that time frame.

What does it mean!? (And yes I know I am nervously trying to read into everything. I'm a 42 year old woman who has been in the same job for a long time and really want this one!)

My guess is you are on the shortlist and they don't want you to get upset or take another job in the meantime.

But...there needs to be a meeting or some other decision point to determine who gets the offer.

No matter what, remain optimistic. Sometimes people take a job, then leave the company, get promoted, lateral due to re-org. If you really want the job and don't get it, be sure to leave everyone with an impression of continued interest.

It means you should wait.

I have seen companies use this verbiage if they think that you may have other offers that you need to respond to. They are being vague. But could give you as more concrete date that they would know

I think if you pressed them, they could get back to you sooner or give you a slight heads up on if they are leaning towards hiring you or if they are not. It could also mean that if you are their #2 or the backup, thry would attempt to push the front-runner to make a decision to accept or decline so they can get back to you sooner on the outcome of your application. .

I agree

Just ran it by a friend who works in HR - basically they are saying you are short listed and it's a good thing. (But obviously not as good as having an offer in hand).

OP here: I already reached out to thank each person on LinkedIn, but should I reach out one more time to emphasize my interest?

When was that? If you have their direct email that is a lot better than LinkedIn. Many people don't check their LinkedIn emails regularly.

Also, this is HR speak for if you have another offer you need to decide on we would like you to let us know. Hard to know much more beyond that but it's a good sign.

I connected with them via LinkedIn immediately after my interview with a note thanking them (they accepted the invite etc so I hope they saw the note). Would a followup email be overkill?

Yes I think it would be overkill. Sounds like your chances are decent and you should hold tight.

Agree, you're on the short list. I think your previous thank you notes are sufficient. Good luck!

Not another email. Advise as other pps, next time use their email. I am not on LinkedIn daily.

I too think you are on the short list.

Have they asked you if it's ok to check your references?

IME on searches, that is our last step prior to making the offer (it takes time, of course, and we don't want to reach out to your current colleagues etc. if you are not near the finish line of our process).

Good luck!

Yes, they asked for references before the final round interview!

You’ve received good advice on this thread OP. Nothing for you to do, just breathe, waiting is hard but Good Luck!
