Key ES - #6 on the waitlist (PK4)

Anonymous
Hey everyone! I’m so excited that we’ve moved to a really good position. I started at #25 on the waitlist and have moved up to 6th. Their website is pretty locked down but there were some basic things I could see. Just wanted some insight from current parents on the school. I didn’t get to go on a tour and can’t tell if those are offered. Are there any current parents here? How is the communication from the class? I see newsletters on a global

Sorry, hit send too soon. I really like the communication at my son’s current pk3 school but Key is better academically so I’m all in for the change, just hoping the communication piece is still strong from the class.

Is it super overcrowded? Is there a buddy program for new parents and returning parents to help the transition? Is there anything for the incoming PK4 class to have play dates or meet up prior to the first day of school?

I guess I want to just prepare and also prep my son for the change and am kind of at a loss from just looking online. I really am hopeful we get called off the waitlist. Looking forward to chatting with some of you soon!

I am a Key parent. I wouldn’t describe Key as overcrowded especially at the PK4 year, but it gets more crowded after first grade. The answer to your remaining questions is yes. It’s a nice school with mostly good teachers. The PK4 teachers are wonderful. The Principal is probably the weakest part because he doesn’t really articulate a vision for the school and does not communicate the thinking behind his decision making well.
You will probably get off the waitlist but it might be the weekend before school starts because a lot of people don’t notify the school that they’re not accepting the slot until then.

We were IB in a similar position. Got off the WL during the first week of school, we turned the spot down because DS had already settled into the other school and was not great with change.
But we were IB, so knew we would be back for K.

Just to keep your expectations in check, at this point likely everyone has accepted spots in PK, so unless someone withdraws and nobody ahead of you on the waitlist wants the spot, I'm not sure you are likely to get a spot.

Hello everyone, just an update, I was offered the spot and am so happy to take it!

I am trying to enroll but unsure how to because we’re already in another DCPS and I re-enrolled there in Aspen before 5/1. Do I complete a new student enrollment for a new student enrollment?

I’ll also send an email to the school but I’m trying to resolve before Monday and wanted to check here if anyone knew the process and how to go forward. I have to respond by 5/9 before my offer goes away. Thanks for your help!

Definitely don’t do a new student enrollment, that will only confuse things.

Just do the form again but on the page that asks what school (towards the end of the set of pages) change the school?

Thanks so much! I didn’t remember where the school selection was and thought it was in the beginning of the form. When I didn’t see it straight away I came here. Appreciate the help!
