Delaware Beach Ocean front upscale

Anonymous
Want to go to Delaware shores and need a hotel or inn that is bright and modern-ish and very clean. It must also be ocean front and have an actual balcony I can go out and sit on.

I’m looking and I see dark country overly flowery looking lodging (that looks like it has an odor) from the online photos.

Yes I’m a beach snob trying to stay local. Thanks for offering assistance where you can! This is for this weekend.

The hotel on the Bethany boardwalk.

Hilton just renovated Dunes Manor in OCMD this winter.

This is a modern boutique hotel in OCMD.

The only one I’m aware of is the Bethany residence inn. Lots more choices in ocean city and with better beach views imo.
I think they are building something where dole’s was in Rehoboth, but not sure when it will be ready. Probably next year.

The Boardwalk Plaza is NOT modern. They really lean into their Victorian style. That said, it is very clean, the furnishings are nice, it does not smell, and it is right on the Boardwalk with balcony rooms.

Bethany Beach Ocean Suites sounds like what you’re looking for. You’re going to pay a pretty penny for beach front balcony in season (if it’s even still available for this year).

OP again- thanks a lot. They sell it as upscale and it’s also expensive and I have low tolerance for Victorian. It makes me sad.

And there’s no beach left in Bethany: tiny sliver of sand, shoulder to shoulder people during the summer.

I’d opt for OC where the beach is wider/less crowded.

Ftr: I’ve been going to the DE and MD beaches for 50 years. I love all the beaches and we have favorite places we visit each time we go (we go throughout the year, not just summertime).

My kids can’t stand going to Bethany in front of the boardwalk during a summer day…way too crowded.

Beach snobs who completely shun OCMD have no clue what you are missing. The accommodations and beach are so much better. Fenwick is the best imho if you are looking for an uncrowded beach, but they don’t have oceanfront hotels. Their Hilton is ocean block and very modern.

I hate the Victorian thing, too, but our relatives have stayed there multiple times and it's fine.

That said, they prefer the Avenue Inn, but it's not oceanfront.

They completed the beach replenishment last year. The beach in Bethany is nice and big again.

This is OP. I am a beach snob as it relates to beach and accommodations. Nothing nearby is going to compare to Turks or Grand Cayman and I have to get away near water! I am not going to be lounging on the beach this weekend and need to be near the ocean! Smile.

Thanks so much for your reply. Just fine is not fine and I can't do Victorian. And, it has to be ocean front with a balcony that I can go out on!

NP. If you’re also a snob about who you’re surrounded by at the beach, avoid Ocean City
