Soundbite

Has anyone used this method from Sara Haberson? Was it successful?

I feel like in a recent YCBK podcast, they were indirectly criticizing her tactics and formula.… they thought these types of “branding” initiatives were too contrived.

Curious as to everyone’s thoughts on how successful her “soundbite formula” is along with layering vs hammering..

We found her book, her FB group, and her philosophy to be spot on and very helpful. She is very supportive. I think our biggest takeaway was in constructing a truly balanced list. We learned a lot from that. Recommend! Even if you just buy the book - that’s pretty amazing low cost advice.

These always feel like the Richard posts.

Agree. I think Sara’s team has found a new market here at DCUM.

I’m the op - definitely not.
I have seen those weird Richard posts too. I have often posted about looking for a college counselor. I joined her monthly service.

Just not sure if AN is the right fit??
Mu DD is aiming for T25…

She has some good advice but her formula is not magic either

I’m the PP and am not on the payroll.

Does anyone publish a better formula for coming up with a quick snappy synthesized summary about the candidate?

I get the impression that AN does best in the T35 to T100 range.

For truly top-tier schools, i think it requires something much more custom and bespoke.

Never heard of her

The Soundbite lets you build a cohesive narrative and it is the best part of her advice. Some not as much-like she asks you to avoid all paid summer programs--this was advice we followed and wish we had not. There are highly prestigious competitive summer programs that are paid and they do help in marking you as a desirable candidate. Also not reporting any 4's in AP exams--it makes your application look suspicious if you have a AP course in your transcript and no AP score.

She advises not to report 4’s?? If I see an AP class on a transcript but no scores reported, I’m going to assume a 3 at *best* and figure it might be even lower. Why would you not report a 4?

Yes. exactly. We reported the 1 4 my kid had. Rest were 5s. Worked out quite okay.

It’s more nuanced - she has poster give a lot of context including what schools being applied to before giving suggestions of what scores to submit.

I am a new poster and I think it’s an excellent service. Kid was already very competitive, but the advice was definitely helpful.
