Anyone do this series
Before college? Not the regular required one.

I think my son just got it at his 16y visit.

He got two different meningitis vaccines. I had the impression they both were required, but we get all recommended vaccines, so I wouldn’t have asked.

I've gotten Meningitis B for my two kids right before freshman year of college. It's a two-vaccine series. Both universities have required the quadrivalent meningitis but not meningitis B, but meningitis is so scary, even if rare, that I think it's worth it.

The thing with meningitis B vaccine (like most vaccines) is that immunity wears off within 1-2 years. That's why I think there's not much sense in doing it in HS, because absent other risk factors, HS students aren't really at risk. To me, it's the first two years of college -- living in dorms, potentially stressed and not necessarily eating and sleeping well, that are the highest-risk zone.

A 16 year old who gets the Men B vaccine and goes to college at 18 likely won't be protected.

You want it summer before college and then booster at xmas break. So it's at peak while your kid is living in the dorms/communal living. Men B is a scary disease, often mistaken for the flu or other illness and healthy 18-20 yo are told to go home, get rest and stay hydrated. By time they realize it's worse, it often is too late. You can go from totally normal not really sick to dead in 24-36 Hours.

Thanks- any side effects? Just asking for planning purposes.

My DD got her meningitis B and another vaccine at the same time that I'm blanking on and had a mild fever and malaise the next day. Not so much arm soreness, but definitely elevated temp and fatigue.
