If not what’s the social life like there? Do they do dances or joint activities with other schools? |
Dances? Lol, it isn't 1962. |
No, it's 2024, and schools have dances. |
Woodberry Forest. |
Madeira is loosely affiliated with Woodberry Forest. The relationship isn’t like NCS and STA or even Holton and Landon, though. There’s not that much interaction. |
This is correct. There have also been social events with other boys' schools (Prep, I think). |
Not with brother boarding school boys bussed in like you are picturing. |
OP here - thanks! |
There's an occasional social event for boarders at Maderia with boarders at Georgetown Prep. |
Obviously OP is thinking about Homecoming and Prom (or the like). I think you're the one who has their mind in some other era. |
Maybe this was true in the past, but not today. They don't do any more with them than any other boys' boarding school. Too bad there are slim pickings for these mixers. All of the boys' boarding schools in the area suck. |
Madeira has many great qualities. (Our daughter is a student there.)
The social scene and connection to other schools is not one of them. My understanding is that there were better interactions between area schools pre-Covid, and that that just hasn't been successfully restarted. |
Honestly when I went there, driving 3 hours really sucked. The opposite gender situation was not ideal, but the school was designed that way. (That was whole point of single sex boarding schools.) |
It is definitely pretty socially isolated. Good experience for girls but very little interaction with boys.
