Thoughts on this? Am I just replacing a crutch?

I’m down about 5lbs since I started having a zero-sugar soda or flavored seltzer a couple times a day (usually between lunch and the end of my work day, and another right when I get home before dinner.) I find it’s stopped me from gravitating towards food just because I’m bored, which was/is a huge problem for me.

I know soda isn’t great for you, but what about zero-sugar?

I think this is fine to use as a substitute for now. In the long run, too much carbonation might be bad for you.

I drink tea (zero calories, sometimes herbal) as my sub to keep me from eating when I want to snack.

It’s totally fine!

I would avoid artificial sweeteners but seltzer should be fine.

+ 1 I agree, except I don't have an issue with carbonation but I don't like all the fake sweeteners.

Artificial sweeteners are linked to other problems, including heart disease: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/is-coke-zero-bad-for-you#:~:text=Artificially%20sweetened%20beverages%20like%20Coke%20Zero%20have%20been,microbiome.%20...%204%20May%20increase%20osteoporosis%20risk.%20

And seltzers are often linked to tooth/enamel decay: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10096725/

I vote herbal teas or something similar! I have recently been mixing water with ginger, tumeric, and cinnamon and drink over ice. For me, a great option when I feel like snacking.

The study on carbonation is not very specific. There is not specific amount referenced and it conflates carbonated drink like soda with sparkling water. I agree people should not drink coke everyday!
