Pain in pelvis - can they check this at my annual GYN appt?

Anonymous
I have some pain in my pelvis that is around the area of where my left ovary is. I had a cyst a few months ago (discovered during pregnancy) that they said was benign but maybe it's grown?

Thankfully, I already have an annual check with my OBGYN tomorrow. Can I bring this up there? I called the office and the receptionist thinks I'll have to schedule a separate appointment for the pain but this seems odd. Don't they perform a pelvic exam as part of the check any way?

My gyno always asks if I have any new concerns. What you have sounds like a new concern to mention. Your Dr may tell you to schedule another appointment. Mine wouldn’t, she’d likely just talk to me about it, order tests and have me schedule a follow up.

Pp again. I did once have my Dr change an annual exam to another type of visit for billing purposes. She did this while I was already there. We just rescheduled the annual.

Thanks PP that makes sense!

I once had some intermittent pelvic pain and mentioned it during my annual exam. The doctor did the pelvic exam as she per usual and then sent me for ultrasound (she didn’t feel anything and the u/s didn’t show anything either). It was still billed as an annual exam.

This. Then ultrasound will be billed as such.

OP here. This is super helpful, thanks!

You can always send your doc a message beforehand to see how they want to handle it. I’m having an issue and asked if I should schedule a separate appointment now, or wait until my annual in a few weeks. The office said we’ll address it when I come in unless things worsen.
