mental health support

What types of support are available to my 10 year old child:

-he needs more than 1x a week therapy for SI and major depressive disorder
-he struggles with emotional regulation and when explosive says suicidal ideations and holds his breath
-he desperately wants connections with other individuals
-was in-patient and it was highly traumatic. Looked at past posts for IOP or PHP but I am not convinced that they will be less traumatic due to his sensitivity with others.

Any thoughts/ideas. We want him to heal and he is not able to fully function at school even with his IEP.

Try searching for previous threads where parents are discussing a lack of hope and unsure where to turn. These tend to be long threads with lots of suggestion.

My best to you.

can you go with him to inpatient so he gets the benefit but without the fear of being left there?

Is there more support available at school? Have you worked with the counseling office? Also, have you looked at DBT-C? It is usually several sessions a week - group, individual and parent. When we were looking for an IOP, we did this instead and added one extra individual session at first for extra support. Not many practices offer it for young kids, but DBT is formulated for people with emotional regulation issues and SI. Search this group - people have asked for recommendations previously.

Beyond that, IOP is really the next level of care. I don’t know how many options are out there for age 10, but a good IOP is nothing like an inpatient stay, which is inherently traumatic, especially at that age.
