Only wine drinker in my house - how to store?

Anonymous
I am really into red wines currently. My spouse is not into them. How do you store an opened bottle so it doesn't turn sour? Fridge? Cabinet? I got a wine stopper so I don't have the reuse the cork. How many days can I realistically store a bottle?

With a wine stopper but for reds, not more than a few days.

Put it in the freezer to preserve peak freshness

First day counter, have another glass then move to the fridge. It's kinda like grape juice if you think about it.

Why on earth would you ask here and get responses from anonymous people who might have no idea, rather than taking 5 seconds to Google and reading fact checked articles from experts?

Two days. Honestly - just accept that you might not finish the bottle. It’s okay to pour some out.

Or, use it for cooking!

Buy cans or Demi bottles

It depends how picky you are! It probably won't hurt you after a week or even two or more but it just might not taste great. I think ultimately it just turns to vinegar, not toxic in small amounts (any more than alcohol is already toxic).

Half bottles are great in this situation.

Use a wine saver that vacuums out the air from the bottle when you are done for the day with it. It really does help!

It is not a problem for boxed wines. You can laugh…but give Black Box wines a try. (NOT the awful local version.)

I was a serious skeptic before trying it. Now it is my go to for home dinners. You just pour out as much as you need from the spigot.

I was going to mention box wine too. I think they’re great. If you like trying lots of different wines, box wine doesn’t allow this, but otherwise they’re good.

Get the vacuum cork system. It has a rubber cork with a little slit in the top, and a vacuum pump to suck all of the air out of the bottle. Then leave it on the counter. I've kept a bottle of red wine for two weeks this way.

I like boxed wine exactly for this reason. Either Botoa box or the black box. The bladder system works great to preserve wine so you can have a glass a day and not worry about your wine going bad. You can also use the vacuum cork but I’m never convinced those work as well as advertised.
