Which colleges sent cool stuff in the mail?
We got a bandana for our dog and a card with our dog's name on it saying, "Your person is going to Loyola,". We also got a flag for the lawn from another school. Anyone else get a unique gift? |
St John's College: they sent a lovely decorated box with a copy of the Iliad and their acceptance letter quoted things they appreciated from my son's personal statement. Also a handwritten postcard for my son's birthday in April. W&M added a handwritten note to the cypher card. Trinity's college admissions director sent a handwritten note after our campus visit there (we did not apply).
I appreciate these small personal gestures. He ended up going to a large private university that did not personalize their acceptance in any way, but threw more money at him than the above. Money talks, but until Admitted Students Day it was a close call. |
How did they know about your dog? |
You raised your son well, despite your weakness for advertising gimmicks. |
There was one question on the application about pets. They also asked about siblings, but that was just for aid. I didn't think much of it at the time. My son wants to major in marketing. This gave me even more confidence in their marketing program. The card was a montage of dogs in Loyola bandanas. Also, one rabbit. Their mascot is a dog named Iggy for Saint Ignatius de Loyola. |
Tennessee sent a musical card that played "Rocky Top"
Very fun and cute in my opinion. It set the stage for a really positive, welcoming admitted student day. |
That's pretty cool. I know TN's acceptance rate is getting narrower and narrower. Congrats to your kid (even if they chose a school with an even cooler song, although I can't think of what that may be.....) |
I loved the blue jay feather print from Johns Hopkins - for the family.
The kid got a bluetooth speaker and some cute patches |
The coolest swag my kid got was squirrel socks from Haverford.
I really don't think colleges should waste money on this stuff. (But I am keeping the socks.) |
Colorado College sent a knit hat and socks and a personalized acceptance letter. They also paid for our admitted student to fly to Colorado Springs and stay in a hotel two nights to attend the admitted students event which included a ton of activities and tour of Garden of the Gods. DC decided not to accept the admission offer, but thought the admitted students event was impressive. |
My DS is a freshman at Loyola and loves it. They do have a good business school and the campus is beautiful. |
DC got a fairly standard flag but it's already proudly displayed on their room wall and was featured in some of their Senior Portraits. |
Reed sent a book, Colgate sent a pennant, notebook and pen and later to the family a puzzle of the campus, Dickinson sent a nice baseball hat, W&M sent a car decal, Wesleyan sent a box also but can’t remember what it contained |
