George Mason is fine. Especially for kids from the DMV who want to stay close to home. But it’s not a selective school as far as Virginia publics go. It’s not University of Virginia. It’s not Virginia Tech. It’s not William and Mary. Most people who apply get in at George Mason.
There’s also a lot of talk on here about the vibe not being ideal. Specifically, that the atmosphere is that of a commuter school. you will see that this thread will probably devolve into arguments about that. I went to grad school at Mason, and did feel like it felt like a commuter school, but whatever. People will definitely start arguing to the contrary here lol. |

my friend's child from sw VA wanted to come to Mason. She is so excited about it.
My daughter also had a long distance bf from the charlottesville area that wanted to come to Mason. He wound up doing community college I think (they broke up before he graduated) |

This is the reason. It's a good school and increasing in "stature", imo. Esp for certain programs. If you want a solid education for a low price tag (relatively speaking, this is a solid choice. |
