Job posting ghosting

Anonymous
I came across a job posting that looked very interesting but was a bit general given the specialization of my field. In trying to find out more, I saw this job had been posted twice before in the last few months - so clearly they were having a difficult time finding someone.

To learn more about the organization and role and who they were really looking for, I contacted the person who would be my direct supervisor to find out more. From that discussion it was clear why many would not want the position however given I have a lot of flexibility right now and it seemed like something that could add to my skill set, I was interested in it. She seemed quite desperate to get someone on board as they are short staffed and struggling to do what they are supposed to be doing. She told me I sounded like a great fit for what they were looking for. I am fully qualified for the position. She told me her boss was overseeing the hiring process and that she would keep in touch.

I submitted my application to a central HR and waited. I didn't hear anything back. I later emailed her just to let her know I had submitted the application and she also didn't respond. The job is still posted online.

I don't really get why companies do that. If you don't even interview, how can you find the people you need? Such a waste of everyone's time.

They sound disorganized.

I feel the same way about rentals- great communication and interest, then next thing I know they don't respond, listing is gone, and/or same listing goes up. Starts feeling like scams are going on.

I guess just be grateful that you're not joining their strange team, and keep being the professional way you are.
