Breast lump - freaking up

Anonymous
Found a lump in my breast yesterday AM. It’s pea sized and hard and moves around (no pain). It’s definitely there, have felt it repeatedly since. No clue how long it has been there but did have a mammogram in January that was clear, but I do have dense breasts.

Going to call my doctor tomorrow AM, but what is the typical chain of events - assume I will need to go see the doctor so she can feel it, and then what kind of testing is typical? It’s always so hard to get appts and I hate to drag this out for months just because I can’t get a Mammo/US appt - do they typically expedite when there is something suspicious?

Did anyone have a hard pea sized lump that ended up being benign? It’s definitely not cyst like, more pebble like.

Very freaked out. This is my first lump. I am mid-40s and have young kids.

This is OP - clearly title should have been freaking out, not up 🤦‍♀️

They will feal it and likely do a needle biopsy. I have had a couple of those and in all cases they were not cancer.

The first will do a diagnostic mammo and sonogram. Then if it looks suspicious, a core needle biopsy.

I have also had two breast biopsies that were both benign. It is SO stressful and I’m sorry you’re suffering. But honestly, it might easily be nothing scary, so remember that!!! Best wishes and be pushy about getting it looked at asap. Washington Radiology is good.

I had/have an even larger sized lump. Diagnostic mammogram, sono and then biopsy. It took about 4 weeks to PCP appt to biopsy. And then another week to wait for results.

All good. It was benign. I'm under 40 if that helps and have no other risk factors. Pp, if you're young, it's likely nothing.

This. It could be a fibroadenoma or even a cyst can feel like that. Don’t google anything and just call your doctor first thing tomorrow morning. Most biopsies are benign.

If it's at all suspicious they won't drag it out for months. Doctors keep slots open for urgent issues.

Something like 80% of breast biopsies end up being benign. Don’t freak out, op! Call your gyn, you’ll get a diagnostic mammo. If something is concerning there will be a biopsy and you’ll go forward from there.

Best advice here is do NOT google anything. Get an appointment and do hard task of distracting self until get results, but do not distract self by looking up what it could be as that will not help.

I have had four biopsies, all negative. Try not to stress, although I know that is hard. One day at a time. Sending a hug!

It shouldn’t take months to get in for a diagnostic mammogram but you might need to go somewhere different than your usual place if you want it fast so you’ll need to arrange to get disks with your prior images from where you’ve previously gone. For example, I think you’d get in faster at VCS than WRA but I have no idea where you live of course.

The lump I could feel was a lipoma. I was seen at GW and they did not do a mammogram but I was also under 40. Fingers crossed for you.

My gym felt something. Just had the f/u mammo and u/s. There was no mass or anything to biopsy.

Definitely do not google and just go through the process. Wishing you good luck.

I found a breast lump and was promptly given an u/s and diagnostic mammo. It ended up being scar tissue from breast reduction surgery. I was definitely freaking out, but the good thing is, in my experience anyway - you will be fast tracked and get answers at the imaging. And chances are it's nothing - so many very innocuous things it could be. But I remember the sheer terror of feeling it! Good luck.
