Bring a car to UFlorida

As many know, few students live on campus and rely on either bus, car or scooter to get around. The university has recently announced budget cuts that will result in significant cuts to the university bus lines. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/no-cuts-to-our-buses

That does kind of suck, but I read that most freshmen live on campus and even the off-campus apartments are walking distance to campus.

Bringing a car isn’t really going to help if they cut the bus service on campus. There’s limited parking and many campus roads are closed to cars during the week day. So if you would otherwise take the bus across campus between classes, for example, you won’t be able to use a car instead due to lack of parking and limited car access during the day.

But this is a negotiation tactic from RTS to get more money from UF, and I expect it will be successful.

Does your kid need the car for a job?

Remember, the freshman college student with a car is the kid who drives around all the drunks and cleans up a lot of puke.

There are many off campus apartments in Gainesville. Some are walking distance. Others are farther, or the walk really sucks (major roads, no shade). Many are not a reasonable walk.

All 3 of my children lived on campus freshman year. They do not need a car.

No car

I live in Gainesville. A car will not help on campus. Get them a bike or electric bike.

Parking passes are like a hunting license. You get to drive around endlessly looking for a spot.

My friends who work on campus have a mile hike each way from the parking lot to where they work on campus and that is rain or shine.

A car wouldn’t help.

My daughter uses a scooter (which I hate) but she was telling me the university banned them for next year. I need to look into this.

UF cut funding first.

My daughter doesn’t have a car and it’s been fine for three years. If necessary, she can Uber as it’s way easier than parking and paying for parking. There are tons of apartments walking distance to campus as well.

100%! My daughter plans to walk and live either on campus/within walking distance to campus.

I'm glad that my son still has his balls.

Presumably she’s been riding the bus routes which are now being cut. Always important to read the whole post and not just the title.
