How much would you need to make to change jobs?

Thinking about a job change out of government- not fed, no pension.

New role would mean a 20% bump and better aligns with ideal career trajectory.

Any reason not to do this other than government is considered “stable”?

No change in commute. Looks like a better work life balance.

I’d move for a 20% bump and have twice. But would also come wider whether giving up flexibility for more $, because that can get expensive.

I make $240K and would want to make $280K+ in a move.

Depends on your priorities. I once made a change to a job that paid me 30% less. But I successfully got rid of a micromanaging boss and a toxic environment. The pay cut was a lot but I got my sanity back.

260k -> 300k+. Some of that could be equity if the company is a solid performer.

Depends on where you are in your career and age. More senior the role, the more money needed. Similarly, the older the worker, the more money or better lifestyle required (e.g., corporate -> Fed).
