I am considering a short trip there and I read someone on another thread describe the sand as golden brown. My most recent island trips have been to Turks and Caicos, Jamaica (white coast) and Grand Cayman. Is the beach pretty anywhere with blue green water or what is it like if you've been elsewhere? TIA |
Where in Puerto? The out islands (Culebra, Vieques) have whiter sand.
Most of Puerto Rico has darker sand and somewhat clear water—but not as clear and turquoise as Cayman or Turks. |
Yes the beach is pretty. San Juan is a big city so the beach there is city beach. Kind of like Miami Beach but imo Miami Beach looks nicer (purely the beach). Try Arecibo which is close to SJ for more beach environ. I would say for a short trip though, it would be more for the vibe/culture in the city of San Juan. Music, dance, art and the beach is an added plus. |
The beaches in Vieques are varied but all beautiful. You can get white sand and calm turquoise water or black sand and waves or off shore snorkeling or a windy beach for kite-flying. You can visit a different beach every day if you want. But it’s pretty rustic compared to other beach destinations — some have no facilities or shade other than a few trees. It feels wild and undeveloped, which I loved. Maybe not worth the hassle of getting to Vieques if it’s a short trip, but if you do go I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the beauty of the beaches.
We also stopped by the beach in Luquillo on the main island and it was nice but nowhere near as beautiful as the ones in Vieques. |
How about the beaches in Culebra? |
Maybe a day trip to Icaros? |
Flamenco beach is perfection. |
