Are you eating more or do the meds mess up your metabolism? What dose do you take? Has it helped with your pain? How long have you been on them? |
Very, very common. |
Very common, OP. |
It's probably both. |
Very common. |
It's not inevitable but it takes a lot of planning to avoid. Prednisone absolutely does drive hunger--a kind I had never before experienced in my life. For that I did lots of high-volume, low-calorie food intake and exercise.
It also does change patterns of body fat deposition. I was on 40 mg/day, tapering, for nine months. I did get a puffy face, but that went away after about 2 weeks off the prednisone. |
Always happens to me even on a low dose I will hungrier and also retain water, fat. I get moon face very very fast. Talk to your dos for about going on steroid sparing alternatives. Prednisone is so bad for health, causes osteoporosis etc. Also if you are on it for autoimmune condition try going on an AIP diet. It is what I did to decrease inflammation and got off prednisone entirely, now on a low dose of a different drug without those side effects. |
I gained 20lbs when I took prednisone for chronic hives and it did not come off when I stopped taking it. |
What do you take now? |
