Takeout/ restaurants that don’t use vegetable oil?

Anonymous
I’m in the long process of dealing with insulin resistance/high blood sugar and getting great results (cgm monitoring). All the experts say that avoiding canola, “vegetable”, refined olive and similar oils is key to keeping liver functioning well. At home this is easy and I use ghee or extra Virgin or avocado oil.

But I desperately miss Indian, Thai and Chinese takeout. I’m assuming even the higher end places will use cheaper oils. Pho with unfried tofu seems safe…any other dishes you have tried and loved that aren’t prepared with “bad oils”? TY!

What experts?

I can't find one actual "expert" who believes what you believe, so I am skeptical that they "all" say that.

Where do the experts say this? I would be surprised if ghee is ever a better idea than olive oil.

Stick to cooking at home,

Although I think some of what you see online about seed oils is over the top I am also trying to limit my intake and I think it’s really hard with restaurant meals.

Sushi I think would work but otherwise I think there’s a good chance you are getting something with seed oils in a sauce etc… I cook mostly at home and just don’t sweat it for the 1-2 times I eat out if a salad dressing or something is made with canola.

Are your “experts” from tiktok?

Extra virgin olive oil, Avocado oil, grass fed butter/ghee are considered good in low carb/ carnivore diet gurus.

If your health problem is the super fried foods, you need to stop the super fried foods.

Seed oil is in far more than fried foods. It’s use it in dairy to fortify it after pasteurization, it’s the source of fat in all plant-based milks and infant formulas, most store bought breads, processed foods, most packaged snacks/candy/foods, supplements, etc. It’s pretty hard to escape unless you only eat meat that you cook at home and produce you prepare for yourself. I avoid seed oils when I can but it’s much harder than just avoiding fried foods.

It is hard to avoid. Lately I’ve been trying to reduce it at home and it’s even in most hummus and oat milks (especially barista blends). I dont worry about it at restaurants or takeout. I just assume they all use seed oils and try to find something that’s not fried or too oily.

The issue probably isn't oil but its the carbs and sugar.

I don’t comprehend people who can’t live without takeout or restaurant food.
