Has anyone seen this news story? Disgruntled employee tries to get principal in trouble with a deep fake. I think news and scandals are about to reach a whole new level

Yes, I saw it. It's horrible.

Can you imagine how easy it would be to ruin people's lives with this?

People will become more skeptical of voice recordings as these incidents proliferate. Right now anyone can create a screenshot purporting to show an offensive text or Tweet from someone else, but few will believe it without more proof. Eventually voice recordings and video will be treated the same.

Politicians and celebrities (I can think of one celebrity turned politician in particular) will simply claim any damaging video of them is a hoax. Criminal defendants may likewise challenge video evidence introduced against them at trial. The consequences will be interesting!

+1. This can happen with video, too - albeit more sophisticated and rare.

The consequences will be devastating, as well they should.

I wish this teacher was publicly named and fired. But it appears neither has happened.

The recording proliferated. A teacher who didn’t get along well with Eiswert admitted to sharing it with a student “who she knew would rapidly spread the message around various social media outlets and throughout the school,” the report said.

What a nasty psychopath. Probably still teaching there now.
