Facial moles and beauty

Anonymous
I always thought I was a terribly ugly person because I have facial moles. I have hated them but felt I couldn’t remove them because it would be too obvious. I had no confidence.

It has occurred to me, now that we have high def everywhere, that many of the most beautiful people in the world have just as many facial moles and they were just not obvious before. It is all about bone structure and symmetry, and mine is actually really good.

I have always been popular with men but I thought it was despite my looks, because I am smart and easy to get along with.

Anyone get to middle life and realize that your ideas about yourself are all wrong?

I removed all my moles. No regrets. No scars.

Several years ago my derm told me the only one who needs a mole on her face is Cindy Crawford.

I think most people of European ancestry have facial moles. I have two and it never occurred to that moles or freckles were “ugly”. I’ve had some Asian friends who seemed to feel that way about moles and freckles however

I know it isn’t the mole on my face that makes me unattractive, but it’s an easy thing to fixate on.

Get rid of it.

I have a small one that is well placed on my chin, off to one side towards the bottom. I’ve always liked it, it makes my face more interesting and less symmetrical. My older daughter has one just below the outside of her nose and it also looks good. These are both small, dark, regular circle moles. Neither of us have other freckles really.
Find a way to embrace them!

I put a fake one on my face in high school. I was trying to look like Marilyn Monroe.

Why do women of completely different ancestry compare themselves. It's insane to try and achieve a Korean face when you are Greek and vice versa. Or copy makeup techniques for a genetically different skin texture and feature shape.

I had 3 removed during covid - mask hid everything!

Same here, you don't have to embrace them.

People vary in how they feel about moles and freckles. I have preferred removing them, my soon seems largely unbothered by his small ones (larger he wants removed) but as my dermo says, "They don't have to be removed, they are a part of him." Just follow your own current feeling about it, these are minor issues in the big scheme. And very fixable.

I have several facial moles of various sizes and generally thought of them as neutral in terms of beauty. When I was a child my grandmother had a few very large pink moles that had grown her whole life and really resembled skin tags more than beauty marks. I vowed that if I had those when I got old I would get rid of them. I'm 41 and this year decided that the largest mole on my chin had gotten too big and lost too much pigment and needed to go. I had it removed a few weeks ago. I had mixed feelings about it - it wasn't really bothering me - but I don't regret it. I was used to it but I do think others may have found it unattractive. FWIW my husband find a well placed beauty mark attractive. I still have two facial moles.
