Any experience with taking oral minoxidil to counter male hair loss ?
If yes, then what is your dosage ? Any side effects ? Any positive or negative results ? Use alone or in conjunction with another type of treatment for male hair loss ? Thank you in advance for any replies. |
Oral minoxidil was tested on bald female group in her/their 50s. Supposedly grew a full head of hair in a few months.
Dosages for female are much lower than the dosage for males. Probably not used much due to very low cost (so no marketing if potential profit is miniscule) because oral minoxidil is primarily used to treat high blood pressure. |
My husband tried this and apparently one of the side effects is that it messes with your sleep. So he had to stop taking it. |
He could have lowered his dosage. Was probably taking 5 mg per day. Could take just 25% or 50% of that dosage. |
I have a family member taking 2.5 mg/day. Just started a few weeks ago, so no impact yet; derm said to expect hair growth in 3-6 months.
No side effects; derm said most likely (but still unlikely) was dizziness so told him to take it at night. He’s had no issues at all. Derm said he often prescribes it with oral finasteride, which is hormonal and addresses the root issue, but given possibility (again low, he said) of side effects like ED wanted to start with minoxidil, which stimulates hair growth and is sufficient for many. |
My DH uses topical Rogaine with finasteride. His hair has grown back significantly. |
Finasteride chemically castrates men. |
Any sexual side effects? |
|
ED is a possible side-effect only for the oral pill version of finasteride (Propecia); it is NOT listed as a side effect for the topical spray--at least to the best of my knowledge after asking this question of a full-time hair specialist medical person. |
It has had zero side effects on my DH, drama queen. Stop acting like your experiences dictate everyone else’s. |
j None that are apparent. |
Im a 60 year old woman who has unabashedly used mens minoxidil since after the birth of my second child in the early 2000s. I never had thick hair, but hair that looked good. After first baby and the ensuing hair shedding I resolved to not experience the same next time. Anyway, no side effects, still have hair as if I'm 16. Way worse things to put on your skin - |
