8th grade: 9-4 school day; 12:30 dr appt would your kid go half day or miss the day?

DD of course would rather miss the day but now I’m wondering if it makes sense to do a half day before or after her appointment. Very rarely if ever do the kids appts get a lunch time appointment slot.

I would take them to school before and after unless she won't be back until after 3:30.

Of course she'd rather miss the whole day!

My kid would go to school for the part of the day they could go to school.

I’d probably pick mine up before the appt and keep them out the rest of the day, depending what is on the agenda in their afternoon classes. If they had a test or something last period, I’d bring them back after the appt (and that is what they would also want- making up tests means they have to arrive early to school or stay after another day- which they don’t want).

Go to school before appt. Return to school afterwards if appt isn't long and isn't far away. If after 2:00, wouldn't return.

This. Though likely would not have scheduled midday in the first place unless it was a really hard to get specialist.

But my 8th grader hates to miss school. He feels it is easier to be there than to make up whatever he misses.

Will you be working?

Ymmv, but even though I WFH, our school is a 15 minute drive if traffic cooperates, and our doctor’s office is another 30 minutes from the school. That’s 90 minutes of driving, assuming traffic cooperates, plus the time at the doctor, let’s say an hour. I’m not doing this just so they can spend a couple hours at school.

Same. It is important they be in school and sends the message you prioritize education.

So everyone your kid has any appointment, they miss the entries day?? Nuts.

My kid leaves school for the appointment and returns afterwards if they'd be back before last period -- unless last period is something like P.E.

The make-up for some classes can be rough, especially if homework adds up.

Definitely wouldn't miss a whole day. I'd pick up and drop off after, unless the appointment runs super late. Something like pick up at noon, be at the doctor's by 12:30, be done by 1:30, back in school by 2:00.

Only exception would be if the classes she'd make are stuff like PE or Art or Music.

My kid had an appointment like that today and we let them stay home all day.
They are a straight A student and rarely miss school so we figure this isn't a big deal.

This is what I would do.

Definitely go to school before and after, unless there is some detail I'm missing here (pupils getting dilated or something).

Definitely go to school in the morning for a couple classes, appointment + maybe lunch as a treat, then back for a couple classes assuming I physically could make it work.

The only exception would be if they were fluff classes in the afternoon (PE or art or something easy enough to miss without consequence), and then it would just be that I was too lazy to take her back.
