Carport post repair (iron) 1960s

Anonymous
Our house was built in the 1960s and has a single car carport. There is an iron metal post that supports the corner. The three posts at the base are rusting thin and I know it will need repaired or replaced. I’d like to keep the same style support, but I’m not sure who to contact. The job seems kind of small for a general contractor. I’ve contacted metal fabrication places but they aren’t able to help. Any ideas on who to contact for this type of job?

The support looks just like the ones on the porch of the first house pictured on this website: https://retrorenovation.com/2011/08/16/add-curb-appeal-to-your-mid-century-home-with-decorative-iron-or-aluminum-porch-columns-3-sources-for-this-old-school-produc/

I have not had this done, but I did get metal railings done. I would think the people who do those would do this sort of work too? We used Reliable Rails and they were great.

Thanks! I’ll check it out.

What about Etsy for a design to spec and then trying the fabricators again? They typically just need a design.

I emailed pictures of the actual column and they said it’s not something they could help with.

Reliable Rails seems promising so far. We’ll see.

Thank you again for this recommendation! They were very responsive and friendly. We had them repair our carport post and a front porch railing that had rusted away from the concrete. I’ll recommend them to others.

This is the PP who recommended them. I am glad to hear that!
