What do you grow under shrubs to stop weeds

Anonymous
I have some mature azaleas with vines and weeds growing underneath where it's hard to access to pull them. What short groundcover can I try to introduce that will complement the shrubs and drown out the weeds? I assume I want a shade one?

Laydown a thick layer of news paper and cover with stone or mulch.

You could try something like native violets or golden ragwort, both of which can make a fairly dense green mulch.

Nothing just do the weeding

Preen under the mulch

Cardboard, plus mulch.

There really isn’t any. Cardboard will help for a season or two but vines and a few other things will happily grow on top.

We have pines on the border of our property that the neighbor planted long ago. They drop so many needles that we have enough to mulch every space we don't want weeds to grow!

I get Chipdrop every spring and put down a thick layer of woodchips.
