Housing Alexandria Fraud

Anonymous
The City touts its affordable housing initiatives as development for teachers and public safety officers, when, in fact, they are building apartments for persons not lawfully in the United States. The City has a program where people “create” forms documenting income. There is no requirements for W-2s or tax returns. Then they are confounded the school population is increasing and they do not have the revenue to fund the schools, police, fire, roads, etc. The City is facilitating tax evasion. Absolute insanity.

Welcome to Alexandria. Want to see how your dollars are squandered? Go sit in front of any of the east end grade schools at drop off. Half the traffic is 20 something black ladies with beat up Altimas with MD tags dumping a car load of kids out.

These comments reflect poorly on Alexandria but not for the reasons you think.

I see you - you think it is some sort of --ist for taxpayers to object to use of their taxes to build high-end affordable housing for tenants who are not legally here and evade paying taxes. And to object to the City aiding the tax evasion. The same City that is raising the property tax rate by 4 cents to fund the schools being inundated by economic migrant children.

This simply isn't true. And who would make that kind of effort to send their kids to Alexandria's schools. Some of the east end schools (George Mason, Brooks, Mount Vernon) are the worst in town.

I would say a significant number of cars dropping kids off are MD tagged, but I think they live in Alexandria and just avoiding paying the personal property tax to register cars in VA (aka tax evasion).

Both my kids went to Maury (now Brooks) K-5 and were walkers. This is 100% true. I was in front of the school every weekday morning and saw it with my own eyes. Go ahead and claim otherwise but those of us that live within a stone's throw from the school see it day in day out.

I'm the Maury poster- No, not nannies. These women were clearly the moms.

I agree it's likely this. People need to start reporting their neighbors with MD tags for tax evasion. Nobody loves paying the car tax, but it doesn't give anyone the right to steal from those of us who ARE paying all our taxes.

I’m just over the border in the Fairfax County side of Alexandria. I also see a ton of Maryland-tagged cars in the kiss and ride. I always just assumed it was a grandparent or other caretaker because our ES starts so late. But now I wonder.

The thing is, I don’t see these Maryland-tagged cars in my neighborhood. So where are they coming from?

We're at a different east end elementary and see the same thing at drop-off. They're definitely moms. One was very heavily involved in the PTA up until the pandemic and listed a Maryland address in the directory. I assume the parents were divorced and the dad lived in the City of Alexandria, but I don't really know.

If you're just south of Old Town, they're coming from over the bridge in Maryland.

Wait, Brooks is now one of the worst? That's my school. Is this true?
