multiple blood clots in placenta

Anonymous
I am 11 weeks pregnant and they saw multiple blood clots in my placenta on an ultrasound. My OB said she is concerned about miscarriage and referred me to an MFM, but couldn't answer any questions about chance of loss or cause of the clots, or what to do. The MFM couldn't get me in until next week, so now I'm just anxious until then and paranoid about every cramp and twinge. Wondering if anyone has experienced this, and what the outcome was? This is an IVF pregnancy and our last embryo, so all the eggs are literally in this basket.

Can you call the doctor”s office that you are due to see and talk to the PA or nurse assigned to the OB you are going to see and ask if there is a lab panel the doctor orders under this circumstance and would they ask whether it is possible to speed up the process by getting labs request sent into LabCorp? Likely will say no, but worth a call.

Ask the MFM about Lovenox, and beg the receptionist at the MFM for a cancellation. Explain your circumstances and that it’s literally your last embryo.

Ughhh no advice but that sounds so stressful. Im sorry you are going through that

Recurrent pregnancy loss veteran here. By the time there are clots if someone isn't putting you on lovonox ASAP you'll lose that pregnancy any day now.

-15 week and 11 week losses finally on lovenox

RPL poster again. There are no labs they could run that would be helpful fast enough in this situation. Also, if she's like me, she could have a very rare clotting disorder that doesn't show on any standard pattern and you need to see a reproductive immunologist (RI) for the diagnosis

+1. Doesn’t seem like Lovonox would hurt in this situation, right? Even without a RPL panel, plenty of REs would prescribe it to give the pregnancy a chance.

Agreed. At a minimum OP take baby aspirin, but you really likely need lovonox.

You need an anticoagulant and bloodwork to test for coagulation disorders.

I think, given the PP's experience (she's posted before), you need to ask the MFM for an earlier appointment, but you also need to try to persuade your regular OB to get you a diagnostic panel done right now, so you have the result to show the MFM.

Maybe PP can share the name of the RI she's seeing, so OP can call them too?

Is this a subchorionic hemorrhage? I had moderate hemorrhages with both of my IVF babies.

Start baby aspirin if you haven’t already. Good luck.

Op, put yourself on baby asprin to start. I'd be calling around to different MFM practices to see if anyone else could get me in sooner. If you have a partner, this is a good way for them to be helpful.

Are you on Lovenox daily?

No.

Can a regular OB start a patient on Lovenox? The IVF clinic can’t prescribe this late into the pregnancy, can they?
