Teaching a young GLPer to read

My 4yo Gestalt language processor is showing signs of sight reading and seems hungry for more. Is anyone aware of tools to help GLP kids learn to read? I believe she is hyperlexic if that makes any difference.

You can check out this resource with recommendations and tools for hyperlexia: https://www.andnextcomesl.com/

Also, in some SN privates reading is taught with some Orton-Gillingham techniques to all children, not just dyslexic ones, so it's something to look into.

The key thing you need to understand is how your child is decoding - for a hyperlexic it's easy to recognize sight words but going from parts to whole and whole to parts is where their uniqueness lies and where your support is needed.

A very timely topic for us too. My very soon to be 4yo GLP is showing signs of reading, sight and some phonetics. His daycare is convinced he’s reading but we think a large part of it is an excellent memory. Wondering if I should let it happen naturally or make efforts to encourage it. I’ve read that comprehension may not always be there with early reading so we really try to ask questions while doing reading time.
