Do realtors still pay for staging? |
Our realtor paid for staging the first floor and part of the second floor. Home price was $1.8MM. |
Some have always paid for staging and some have never paid for staging. |
$700K home here, and our realtor covered staging for the first floor and basement. She said the bedrooms didn't need it because they were already pretty spacious. |
It's a question to ask as you interview agents, and will be a data point to consider as you decide between them. |
I never understood the point of staging. I'd rather see the space empty or with minimal furniture to get an idea on things. |
Ours paid for a consult with a stager. She went though and told us exactly what to do but we did the work. I assume that is way less cost than when they come in and do it for you. |
The world is changing OP. There are now realtors that get paid by the hour, by the service etc. It's not the world of 6% anymore. |
What agents are working hourly? Can you name a few? |
Since when has staging become so popular? One of my neighbors houses, who am my opinion, didn’t need to be staged, was. The house would’ve sold without the extra effort, and expense. At the same time good for the staging companies to sell this as a necessity, smart on them.

I would take it as included in the realtor's fee, after I negotiated the fee down way below 6 percent. |
We all think that we are the person who can see an empty house and doesn’t need staging. |
And that is a good thing. |
Fake news, failed Realtor. |
You're the one paying for staging, even if your realtor writes the check to the staging people. Staging is not a freebie your realtor throws in out of the goodness of their heart.
Specifically, if your realtor wants 3-4% and that includes staging your house, then you could negotiate them down and forego the staging. This is Econ 101. It's like how a store with high rents passes those high rents onto you in the form of a higher price for whatever you're buying. |
