I got a Spectra S1 during my first pregnancy ~3 years ago and used it for about 6 months. I'm expecting my second in a few months and have an insurance benefit to order another breast pump. Can I reuse my Spectra S1 from the first go-around and use my insurance to get a wearable pump (mostly for post -mat leave when I'm back in the office) this time around? Or should I replace my Spectra S1 which will be my main pump? I'm not sure how long Spectras last, especially if it hasn't been used/turned on in the last 3 years. |
This is what I did, but it was 2 years and an S2. The S2 was used about once a week for a year with my first baby and worked fine for the second. But after I started using the Willow Go, I never went back to the Spectra because the out put was the same.

Should be fine. They are made to last a year, so you should have another six months at least.
Do replace the flap thingies. |
You can get the pump tested to see if the motor and suction are still good. In DC, the Breastfeeding Center does this for free. You just need an appointment. |
Get the wearable! I have the Lansinoh discreet duo which was 100% covered by insurance and it’s a fine pump. Pump using the spectra as much as you can and then the wearable when you can’t (while establishing supply). I also always see lots of spectra’s on buy nothing so you can always get a newer one there if needed. |
